Dr. Sandy Weinberg

Dr. Sandy Weinberg holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and a Post-Doctoral degree from the University of Florida. His career activities span both the biological science industry and the business development arena, working with the FDA and other regulatory agencies to speed the development and control of the regulation of biologicals. Currently Dr. Weinberg serves as Senior Director of Fast Trak Vaccines, a GE Healthcare initiative (formerly Amersham Biosciences), where he is responsible for helping to speed the development of vaccines for biodefense and other health issues.

Dr. Weinberg is the author of sixteen books on biomedical regulation, validation, and vaccine development. He is also the author of two newsletters ("Early Warning" and "Advanced Notice"), and has written and presented more than 100 articles and speeches on cost effective compliance. Dr. Weinberg is a regular columnist for American Biotechnology Laboratory, LIMSource, and The Journal of Bioprocessing. He has served as a consultant to the USFDA, USEPA, U.S. Surgeon General, Netherlands RIVM, Canadian Bureau of Biologics, Swiss Cantonical Ministry of Health, South African Ministry of Health, and a number of other international regulatory agencies and industrial organizations.

Dr. Weinberg's background combines an academic career in information systems and biomedical science with ten years of entrepreneurial experience where he established a biomedical devices and biotech company. He has also developed and patented algorithms, software products, and devices for testing diagnostic systems, including the diagnosis and evaluation of AIDS blood testing, air quality maintenance in Class Four biotechnology laboratories, control of Laboratory Information Systems, and the evaluation of sonograms and mammograms.

For seven years Dr. Weinberg served as the Director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Entrepreneurship where he also taught courses in biomedical entrepreneurship.

Gerald J. Whartenby

Gerald J. Whartenby is the Associate Director of Muhlenberg College's Institute for Entrepreneurship and is the author of the chapter on "Good Automated Laboratory Practices" in the book, Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (2003.)

Mr. Whartenby has extensive personal entrepreneurial experience, particularly in the fields of micro business, entertainment, and publishing. His Muhlenberg position is supported by grants from a number of sources including The Windmill Foundation, The Digital District of Allentown, and the Sylvia Perkin Foundation.

Mr. Whartenby's background also includes service in the United States Navy (submarine service) and the Philadelphia Police Department, and he has held administrative positions at two Philadelphia area high schools.

Mr. Whartenby holds bachelor's and master's degrees from LaSalle University and is an ordained (Catholic) Deacon.

David O'Shaughnessy

David O'Shaughnessy has managed, developed, and supported biomedical application software for over 14 years.

Throughout his software engineering career, Mr. O'Shaughnessy has designed, created, and maintained data collection and management systems. Because of his LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) work, he has championed the need for additional biomedical data management system capabilities. With his experience in LabCORE's primary market and his computer programming knowledge, Mr. O'Shaughnessy is helping P-Wave identify and take advantage of new business opportunities.

Mr. O'Shaughnessy holds a master's degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Bucknell University.
